What is a housing cooperative?

A housing cooperative is an association of people who together create and maintain secure, affordable housing. You are not applying to a conventional landlord but for an apartment within our cooperative – with a voice, long-term perspective and fair rents.

  • Lifelong right of residence once you are a member and have moved in
  • Fair, non-profit usage fee instead of market rent
  • Voting rights at the members' assembly
  • Stable neighbourhoods, reliable tenancy

Applying is non-binding and free of charge.

How your application works

The whole process is transparent and follows clear steps:

  1. Fill in the form

    You will go through seven sections covering personal details, profession, housing preferences and household. Your entries are saved locally on this device – you can pause any time and continue later.

  2. E-mail confirmation

    Right after submitting you receive a confirmation with a personal access link. It lets you check the status of your application and withdraw it at any time.

  3. Review by BGNU

    Our team reviews your application and matches it against available apartments. This is rule-based and transparent – no automated AI decisions.

  4. We contact you when a match is found

    As soon as a suitable apartment becomes available, we contact you in writing and without obligation. If no match is available, you will not hear back for now.

Our privacy commitments

  • Your data is automatically and permanently deleted after 12 months, to the day.
  • You can withdraw your application at any time yourself – link in the confirmation mail.
  • Sensitive fields (income, financial details) are stored encrypted.
  • No sharing with third parties. GDPR-compliant, servers located in Germany.
